Platinum has such a pleasant disposition and we have already grown very fond of him. He continues to be a quick learner.
We are so excited to see what this prospect will mature into. Unfortunately, he got kicked when he was about 2 1/2 weeks old in his front right leg and there has been no real improvement. We will continue to monitor him and hopefully will have the opportunity to atleast start and ride him a little at home. Platinum has been lightly started in the round pen and with saddling and seems his leg seems to be tolerating things well. He has taken everything in very well. Now all we need is a little nice weather to continue working with him.
Time will tell though, in the meantime we are focusing on his strong qualities. This colt has a huge hip with tons of muscle. He is confirmationally correct in every way except his injury. He has an adorable face with a soft eye and keen presence. Not only does this colt have a tremendous pedigree to back him but coloured genetics.
He has such a thick soft coat that you can't help but want to hug him. Platinum is truly a pleasure to work with and is a quick learner, not to mention he has the moves.
The following information contains some real basic facts regarding Cremello's.
Cremello is a horse coat colour consisting of a cream coloured body with a cream or white mane and tail. Cremello's are known as "double dilutes". They are horses which received two copies of the same creme dilution gene from their parents.
A Cremello results when two creme dilute parents (Palomino or Buckskin) are bred together (Platinum's sire is a Cremello and his dam is a buckskin). There is a 25 % chance that the resulting foal may get one creme dilute gene from each parent, and be a double-dilute (and therefore a Cremello or Perlino).
Cremello's are just like any other normal, solid coloured quarter horse but with major breeding benefits.
When bred to all solid (non dilute) coloured mares e.g. chestnut, bay , brown, or black, Platinum will produce a foal that carries a dilute gene. The dilute gene is the cause of the beautiful golden colours of Palomino and Buckskin and also the wonderful Double Dilute colours of Cremello and Perlino.
Depending on the colour of the mare that Platinum is bred to, this will determine what shade of gold he produces.

This is just a sample of possibilities - the chart will be updated once colour testing is complete.
Cremello horses will always have pink skin, blue eyes, and are a light cream or gold colour when born, but sometimes fade to almost white as an adult.
Cremello's are not white horses. White horses have a pure white coat from birth with brown or blue eyes and pink skin and no genetic dilution factor.
Cremellos do not carry any of the genes that produce true white colouring, thus they also will not carry any of the "lethal white" conditions, such as lethal white syndrome.
Cremello horses are also not albino; they do not have a white hair coat nor do they have non-pigmented eyes. (True albinism has not been found in horses, it is also believed to be a lethal gene).
